Measurement and decision sequence

  1. Compare MAF/MAP/boost, lambda/O2 and fuel trims at the same load point.
  2. Prove vacuum/boost leakage with smoke/pressure testing, not visual inspection alone.
  3. Cross-check exhaust backpressure and temperature sensors against physical conditions.
  4. Assess DPF soot-vs-ash, differential pressure, EGT, SCR/DEF and NOx sensors as one chain.

Misdiagnosis traps

  • Replacing catalyst/DPF on codes such as P0420/P2002 without measurement.
  • Assuming a correct electrical sensor signal proves the physical system is healthy.
